Power cuts in the Greater Hyderabad region will be reduced from three hours to two hours per day, from Thursday.

This became possible after the successful synchronization of the 800-MW Krishnapatnam thermal power project in Nellore district on Monday night. At present, Hyderabad and other major cities including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Warangal are under three-hour power cuts in two spells. This would be reduced to two hours from Thursday, sources in the AP Transco disclosed.

Power cuts in municipal areas and towns will be reduced to four hours from the existing six hours and at mandal headquarters to six hours from eight. It was also decided to reduce power cut in villages to 10 hours from the existing 12 hours. "Once the Krishnapatnam plant is stabilized, there will be relief to all categories of power consumers," said S A M Rizvi, CMD of central discom.
